Being two years old is a lot of work, and a lot of fun. Everything needs to be looked at, examined, explored and sometimes pulled apart and stomped on. That keeps one very busy. I love photographing children this age because they are so much fun. You can’t ask a two year old to sit still and smile for the camera. (Well you can try, but I doubt it will go over well.) Each toddler photo shoot I do, is a balance of running and hoping to catch them in the perfect position along with lots of question asking hoping for them to pause long enough to think. Sometimes I’ll have mom or dad set them down in a spot knowing that they will probably run in front of my lens. Sometimes it works, sometimes they go the complete opposite way. These tiny humans are very challenging, but also so worth it when I capture their essence. This can’t be done in a studio. It must be done in the open air where they can dig in the dirt and play with seeds floating on the breeze. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
