Dragør is located on the southeastern coast of the island of Amager, only 12 km from central Copenhagen. You can get there by bus, car or bike. The town was founded in the 12th century, and quickly grew as a fishing port having one of the largest fishing fleets in the country. The Gammel By or old city has small cobblestone streets that wind their way through traditional Danish yellow houses with thatched roofs. No cars are allowed making it one my most favorite picturesque locations near Copenhagen. They have cute cafe’s, a bakery, and ice cream shops. They also have a museum. Being in the Gammel By is like stepping back in time into a dreamland.
I thought it the perfect place to take Otto who is an old soul. When asked to run and jump around he put his hands behind his back and simply strolled down the lane. He could have been 80 years old, had he been taller and had more wrinkles. But give a boy a balloon, and watch him go.
