How the year has flown by! It seems like yesterday that my baby girl was born. So I wanted to celebrate with a cake smash. It is a growing tradition in the USA as well as Denmark when babies turn 1 to have them go crazy on a cake.
Our cake was made by Cake Creations by Kirsten and she did an amazing job. Kirsten is also an American married to a Dane, living in Denmark. She began baking after a cake fail, wanting to impress her relatives. She is self taught, trying many different methods and combinations along the way. But don’t let that fool you, her cakes look professional and are super yummy. We talked at length about making a healthy cake so it wasn’t a full on sugar bomb.
I admit sometimes I look at Pinterest to find ideas, I found most of the cake smash photos to be over done, with too many props. Instead I chose a white backdrop without any balloons, or signs ect., because I feel simple is best, especially for cake smashes. It is about baby vs. cake, nothing more.
As for the cake smash I’m not sure where this tradition came from, and honestly I don’t really care. What is cuter than a baby covered head to toe in cake and icing?
